Update | 14 Jun 2022

When setting up a new employee in payroll it is important to have the following information at hand and ready to go:

  1. Tax File Number (TFN) declaration form: read more here
  2. Bank account details: this makes it easy to ensure you can pay them promptly on payday.
  3. Superannuation details: this means you can set them up in full all at once, if not you have to receive this within 28 days.
  4. Contact and personal details: whilst full name, tax file number, date of birth and primary email address are captured on the TFN declaration form, the following information is not:
    • - Mobile phone number
    • - Next of kin to contact in an emergency
    • - Allergies and health conditions etc
  5. Contract: it is best to clearly set out the conditions of their employment and note that you will pay superannuation and all other statutory obligations
  6. Policies & procedures: if you have specific policies and procedures then this is the time to advise them that you expect their compliance with this
