To withdraw funds from superannuation a member needs to meet a condition of release (COR).

The most common conditions of release for paying benefits are that the member has met one of these conditions:

  1. Retires: the member reaches their preservation ages and retires
  2. TRIS: the member reaches their preservation age and begins a transition-to-retirement income stream (TRIS)
  3. Stops working: the member ceases an employment arrangement on or after the age of 60
  4. 65-years old: the member is 65 years old (even if they have not retired)
  5. Death: the member has died
