Primarius Blog - Standard tax queries

Muriel Oliver
Update | 8 Aug 2024

Every year we have many "standard tax queries" that we shall ask you.  These are to ascertain if your situation has changed or if anything is different from the prior year. This is to gather information on any developments or changes in the scope of our work for you.

These typically include:

  1. Change in family circumstances - either through happy events i.e. births & marriages or death, divorce etc.
  2. Buying or selling investments - whilst we prefer to hear about these prior to the end of the financial year, the sooner we are aware of this the better we can deal with any Capital Gains Tax (CGT) or other tax events.
  3. Change in business, work, or income stream circumstances - we have a complex tax system in Australia so it is important for us to spot any opportunities or concerns if there are updates to your earning situation.
  4. Expense claims - as your circumstances change, so does the types of expenses you may claim. In Australia, this is covered by the nexus with income contained in the overarching principles of the tax act.

Understanding changes means we may have to ask you further questions, so we try to ascertain any material developments as soon as possible.

Disclaimer: This information is general in nature and is not an opinion expressed by us. So, before acting on this or any other information, it is important to seek professional advice related directly to you and your circumstances.  Should you require our assistance, contact your Primarius Team leader, or email us at info@primarius.net.au
